Walmart #1882 Selma, CA

For the first post in February I bring you the Walmart Supercenter in Selma, CA. This location opened on 11/2/92 as a Division 1 store and is the only Walmart in this town. This location is 103,340 SF single entrance Supercenter. It has the current the blue/gray paint outside but has the yellow/blue paint and blue signage inside. Due to being a small Supercenter this location doesn't have a fast food restaurant, nail salon, hair salon or vision center. As you enter the customer service desk is on the right and the cart corral is on the left. The walkway curves around the bakery and into the produce area. Grocery is on the right side of the store with the pharmacy, cosmetics and health & beauty on the left. Electronics, pets, baby section, and the auto center along the back wall with hardware, paint, and sporting goods along the left wall. Upfront the garden center is all the way to the left with toys and crafts across from each other. This store felt really cramped and pack in as it seems Walmart tries to pack as much merchandise into these small stores as possible. Lets get to the pictures!

Here is a map I found for this store

Lets head inside!

Produce, deli and bakery up front near the entrance and pharmacy/Hba located across from grocery

Pharmacy/health & beauty area across from grocery

Baby area/pets along the back wall across from pharmacy

Electronics along the back wall with the pickup area and the auto center to the left

Hardware/paint along the left wall near garden center

Garden center upfront all the way to the left

Looking upfront along the front wall behind seasonal

Looking towards the registers...They have 10 self checkouts and 7 regular registers at this location

A few pictures of the outside will complete the store tour here with a few pictures of what the exterior look like previously...

The exterior in 2016...

Here is a picture from 2011 that I took well before I started my journey in retail. Like most Walmart's I've been to this one seems to do good business and was busy during my visit here. This is the first Walmart I've been to that scans everyone's receipt with a handheld scanner and then scans random items in your cart to verify if you bought those items. It's sad that they have to do this but from working several years at a different Walmart I can say that people will steal anything they can get their hands on. There's room for future expansion here with space on both side of the building if Walmart so desires. Well that's a wrap from the Walmart Supercenter in Selma, CA! I have store tours from Supercenters in Tulare and Fresno, CA still to post at some point here on the blog. You can find me on Flickr by clicking here

  1. You did mention it was a town issue when it came to them leaving the exterior the same. Do you suppose that was also the case with them actually physically expanding the building too? They should probably consider revisiting the planning board if they wanted to do that.

    1. Yes at the time the town voted down Walmart's plan to build a new store and knock this one down. Since then Walmart seems content to keep this store open in it's current state as there haven't been any new plans to demolish/renovate this location submitted to the city. California hasn't always been friendly to Walmart but times have changed and towns now realize how much tax money they will receive from Walmart.
